As a father, a coach, and a corporate leader I often look at one area to inform another. Here are 5 phrases that corporate leaders should convey to their workforce EVERYDAY. I believe the parent and the coach in you will smile from the familiarity each phrase breeds:

5. I am proud of you.

Say that as often as possible while maintaining it’s authenticity.

4. May I help you?

As leaders, coaches, & parents we often immediately try to infuse ourselves into the perceived problem. Don’t push yourself into the situation. Ask. Everyone is trying to figure out their way. Assuming you have a solution can often be seen as arrogant, intrusive, and ignorant … all at one.

3. I love you.

If you don’t love the people you’re leading then you probably shouldn’t hold that position. Remember love is verb. If it’s appropriate to say, then say it. If it’s not, then show it through kind words, a sincere note, or just a simple pat on the back.

2. Thank You.

Sincere please and thank you’s are lost in our society. There’s no better place to bring back their power than from the leadership position. Those words still go a long way.

1. WE.

In today’s world of self-promotion this one word will change the way you see the world. I often wonder what the corporate and team world would look like if no one cared who got the credit and everyone stepped forward to accept accountability when failure occurs. Can you imagine how much could be accomplished?
